1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #648 - Manhattan Transfer, Singapore

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #648

- Manhattan Transfer, Singapore

There was so much harmony from the vocals of Manhattan Transfer, here at the Esplanade, Singapore, even after crossing 50 years of being in showbusiness. Such excellence in longevity for these "Boy from New York City"..and girls.

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #546 - Katy Perry "Witness" Concert, Singapore Indoor Stadium

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #546

- Katy Perry "Witness" Concert, Singapore Indoor Stadium

(We missed out on getting the tickets for Bruno Mars, so we were not going to miss out again on the other superstar, Katy Perry. Her "Witness" concert must have at least 10 costume changes, with props of all kinds being put on stage and constantly rotated. The sound system was loud and thumping, but it could have been a tad lower, so that we can hear Katy's voice better. Of course, the big song came out last - "Firework" - compete with fireworks on stage and around parts of the stadium - see video below. It was a spectacular ending for a real showwoman, at the top of her game, still. But where is my recent favourite, "Feels"?)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #545 - Evita Concert, Marina Bay Sands

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #545

- Evita Concert, Marina Bay Sands

(It was an experience we wanted to have, especially after our recent trips to Argentina, including Ushuaia last November. True to Andrew Lloyd Webber form, the show was slick and professional staged. The main song, Don't Cry For Me, Argentina, of course took the cake. Now, my cultural immersion of Argentina is complete - maybe)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #425 - Santana's Transmogrify Tour, Suntec

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #425

- Santana's Transmogrify Tour, Suntec

(We didn't get to see him the first time around 3 years ago, but not this time. Santana lit up the Suntec auditorium. All his best songs were played, including Maria, Maria and Samba Pa Ti. It felt like a full festival. In fact, it could be the best concert we have attended since the Eagles - so that is saying something. He ended the night with Smooth; how cool was that? Enjoy the clips below)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #410 - James Taylor concert, STAR Theatre

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #410

- James Taylor concert, STAR Theatre

(He is 68 years old, but his songs still sound so good. James Taylor gave us a nostalgic night with his clear voice - the press called it honey-suckled vocals. And when he played his all-time hit, "You've Got A Friend", the crowd got their money's worth. I didn't quite follow all his songs when young but hubby was in teenage-heaven, just listening to him. Which of the video clips below is your favourite?)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #348 - Jessie J concert, Singapore Indoor Stadium

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #348

- Jessie J concert, Singapore Indoor Stadium

(Not knowing much about her, we decided to give her concert a shot. Turns out, she was excellent! Goodness..she has a powerful set of lungs, which came through with her "Bang-Bang" song, which she did with Ariana. But the song that really took the night to a new height was her Flashlight - the audience obliged blissfully with their handphone flashlights - see videos below. Her ability to tell her stories and connect with her audience sets her apart)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #313 - Kevin Hart 'What Now?' Tour, Singapore

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #313

- Kevin Hart 'What Now?' Tour, Singapore

(Okay, we have never paid for a proper 100% comedy show but having seen this guy on TV a couple of times, we decided to check it out, 'live' in his "What Now? Tour" here. And it was worth every dollar of it! When we walked in, all seemed so sombre, with ushers popping into everyone's ears like a rash, telling all, "No photos!..or you will be ejected, like 300 people in Sweden". Really? The hostile mood turned quickly into barrels of laugh when Kevin took the stage. It was the best stand-up comedy that we have ever seen - 'live' or on-screen. Who can forget his raccoon and shark stories?)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #285 - Private Car Transfer (Mercedes Benz), Naples

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #285

- Private Car Transfer (Mercedes Benz), Naples

(Our private-car-transfer driver from Naples to Amalfi was right on the spot when we arrived at the Napoli station - Giovanni of Benvenuto and his Merc. What a pleasant surprise indeed! To be whisked away like the Queen (okay, it wasn't a Rolls but good enough for me), with views even a 20-hour flight+train ride could not fail to impress. Just look at what this 90min private car ride gave us - our first look at the infamous active volcano Mt Vesuvius and the cliffhanging Amalfi coastline. Not a bad deal at all for Euro90.. )

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #283 - Crazy Christmas, Esplanade Theatre

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #283

- Crazy Christmas, Esplanade Theatre
(It's been 2 years since we last saw them, thinking their 'Happy Ever Laughter' shows were better. And it is true that this year, it was toned down somewhat, with primary school children being invited to the stage too. Kumar without a dress is ample proof. Still Broadway Beng stood out as the main draw. But Pam's version of Adele's "Hello" was the surprise barrel of laughs. They are always worth a night out for us)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #282 - Ghost The Musical, Marina Bay Sands

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #282

- Ghost The Musical, Marina Bay Sands

(One of the all-time love stories ever in the movies have arrived as a musical on stage here at MBS. Ghost The Musical had all the leading lines that made the movie such a hit, including the best character of the lot, Oda-Mae, who had the most powerful voice on stage. The haunting song, "Unchained Melody" was sung differently and wasn't in full, which dampened the experience for the night. But it was a very good musical production, with some never-seen-before special effects)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #273 - Totem, Cirque du Soleil, Spore

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #273

- Totem, Cirque du Soleil, Spore

(When was the last time I had been to a circus? I can't remember, but definitely as a small girl. But with Cirque du Soleil's Totem, it is totally different. Yes, the Big Top was there, but inside, no lions or elephants but just plain gripping, impressive circus acts from true gymnasts. The uni-cycle girls were awesome but the final act from the pole-jumpers was spectacular. The 'live' music and singers made the occasion even grander)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #232 - Lea Salonga concert, Esplanade

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #232

- Lea Salonga concert, Esplanade

(She is probably the 1st diva from the Philippines, and also it's only Disney princess. With her distinctively clear voice for Aladdin and Mulan, she was a delight to watch 'live'. This sold-out crowd at the Esplanade was left asking for one encore after another, with resident Filipinas being the loudest. Her 'originals' from Miss Saigon and Les Miserables were effortless! She fully deserves her Disney princess title, crooning both those Disney songs with ease, although we would have much preferred she left the guy out from the crowd when Aladdin was sung, and bring Peabo Bryson in)
