1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #678

- Bath, England

Bath, actually named because of its Roman baths during the olden days, is such a delightful town, especially with its Abbey looking so resplendent. Together with its unique-looking Pulteney Bridge and its horse-shoe river, you can see the reason why it is a big draw for university students to study here.

The city of Cardiff in Wales is marked by its huge castle right in its city centre. Built by UK's richest man then, the palatial building is quite a spectacle inside.

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #676 - Waterford, Ireland

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #676

- Waterford, Ireland

The Vikings landed here first, before going inland and taking over most of the British Isles. The ship they used, no bigger than our bus, was recreated by the riverside. Waterford's claim to fame is its crystal making - still a craft sought after by many, including as trophies for golf tournaments.

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #675

- Kilkenny, Ireland

The small town with a big castle, that's Kilkenny. But a sleepy river runs through it, and on this post-Xmas morning, its high street has an unexpected music shop selling super range of 33rpm vinyls.

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #674

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #673

- Belfast, N Ireland

Belfast, so often in the news for its sectarian violence in the past, was shining bright for us at the City Hall. The Titanic Memorial around the side of this Hall was a striking statue of a female personification of Fate holding a wreath over the head of a sailor. Also the actual rescue boat SS Nomadic for 1st class passengers, was on display near the riverside.

- Gretna Green, Scotland

Gretna Green sits right across the England border and into Scotland, but its claim to fame comes from the marriages that take place here for English couples who are 16yr olds. Yes, they can marry here, but not in England, because Scotland laws allow it.

Grasmere is that little town on the other side of Lake Windermere which most visitors would miss. But its a lovely corner of Yorkshire and boasts the best gingerbread we have ever had, from this Sarah Nelson store.

So solidly built, so majestic. This Tower Bridge is so easy on the eye, even on a gloomy day. The glass-section looking down to River Thames was a nice touch.

This is our 3rd time out during this Xmas period to catch Crazy Xmas, and it didn't disappoint - this time at the spanking new Capitol Theatre, beautifully restored. The regular cast was present but as usual, Sebastian Tan and Kumar stole the show. But this year, it was not as funny as previous years. But that Hazrul guy from Vocaluptuous can sing!

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #664

- Kedai Belacan, Es Teler and Karthik Sari cakes, Bandung

Bandung's food scene is as good as people say it is, and inexpensive too. We had a terrific meal at Kedai Belacan Restaurant, with their gurame terbang at the top of our order list. And for dessert, the Es Teler Avocado/Durian has just become our best dessert, ever..that is really saying something, given all the awesome dessert choices in all the Southeast Asia countries here. We cannot go home without buying our share of the famous kueh lapis from Karthik Sari - wonderfully tasty.

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #663

- Dago Heritage, Bandung Giri Golf Clubs, Bandung

Here in Bandung for the first time to play in Dago Heritage and Bandung Giri Golf Resorts, with expectations of cool weather like Cameron Highlands. Well, the temp was cooler than Spore, but at 24-26C in the mornings, it was warmer than Cameron. But the views here made up for the weather - mountain backdrop and delightful flora in every hole, esp at Dago. We plan to return.
