- Lukla airport, Nepal
(Flying to Lukla from Kathmandu was heart-in-the-mouth stuff. At 2860m high, Lukla is already one of the highest airports in the world, but the runway here falls off a 200m deep cliff! Our flight on the 16-seater Dornier was delayed by 2hrs - we had flightmates who couldn't fly out not once, but 2 days in a row, which explains the long queue at 5.30am. We were lucky to get in on Day1. Just look at the video below - is it any wonder it is voted the scariest airport in the world?)
