1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #172 - Coffee Luwak, Bali

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #172

- Coffee Luwak, Bali

(This is supposedly the world's most expensive coffee - coffee luwak. From the droppings of the civet cat in the Bali jungles, they are roasted and then packed for sale at over 6 times more expensive than Nescafe Gold. Had a cup of it under a shed costing $6 - it tasted too strong for my liking, so I will stick to my Ipoh white coffee, thank you very much)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #171 - Kuta beach sunset, Bali

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #171

- Kuta beach sunset, Bali

(The sunset scene along Kuta beach is supposed to be inspiring. So we made it a point to check it out, and sure enough, the view is picture-perfect all along this western side of the island. But sections of the beach is covered in black sand - apparently from volcano eruptions from years gone by. Still, a Balinese massage by the beach is an inexpensive treat)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #170 - Tanah Lot Temple, Bali

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #170

- Tanah Lot Temple, Bali

(The iconic Tanah Lot Temple in Bali represents all that this magical island gives to a visitor -  beauty, tranquility and raw power in equal measure - the serene temple perched atop an isle that is awashed by the constant white waves. The whole bay is a treat for the eye, including the local Balinese princess taking her rightful spot against this icon as her backdrop)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #169 - Taman Ayun, Bali

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #169

- Taman Ayun Royal Temple, Bali

(Back in Bali after my first visit many years back, and this mythical Island of the Gods still brings out the serenity in me. Is it the countless temples here, like this one at Taman Ayun? Its distinctive architecture is enough to make you feel a little at ease. Things do move slower here, I think. The book , Eat Pray Love, does reflect what's here)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #168 - Happy Ever Laughter, Esplanade

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #168

- Happy Ever Laughter, Esplanade

(The first one last year was very good, but the second this year was even better. Happy Ever Laughter is easily the best comedy show in Singapore. New routines from Adrian Pang and Mark Lee were surprisingly good, but it's the newcomers like Siti Khalijah, Fuzz and Rishi who were really outstanding, including Karen Tan posing as a typical civil servant. But our favourites, Judee Tan, Sebastian and Kumar gave us bellyaches, as usual. Wonderful evening of a belly full of laughters, especially after having arrived from a neverending flight from Brazil the night before)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #167 - Municipal Theatre, Sao Paolo

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #167

- Municipal Theatre area, Sao Paolo

(Sao Paolo weather is even more refreshing than Rio's, running around 22C in April. Nice. With limited time due to scheduled flights, we headed out to the Municipal Theatre area and was pleasantly surprised by the walkways, with buskers playing their songs, including an Eric Clapton sound-alike. We made sure we came back with some local delights like a yummy sponge cake and chocolates, and yes, more Havainas..they are cheaper here. Too bad that time was limited here. Another reason to come back?)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #166 - Quick Galetos roast chicken, Rio

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #166

- Quick Galetos roast chicken, Rio de Janeiro

(Brazilian food has been generally easy for our palates, but the one dish that got us coming back for more was this small outlet behind our hotel called Quick Galetos with their freshly roasted chicken. They were tender, tasty but their brocholli rice side-dish was such a delight for us, we came back home telling ourselves we had to cook it too. Wonder if we can bring this simple fastfood concept to Singapore? The way they pack their take-aways was rather unique too, but I think it's the mix of tender chicken, brocholli rice, diced tomato onions and the cool Rio weather that made it really yummy)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #165 - Christ the Redeemer, Rio

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #165

- Christ the Redeemer in daylight, Rio de Janeiro

(We just had to take the famous tram up the Corcovado hill to see Christ the Redeemer again, this time, in the light of day. What a new view indeed, with the bright midday sunshine bathing the statue, all 38m tall. It took almost 10 years to complete it in 1931. With the Sugar Loaf Mountain as the backdrop, this is a million dollar view. And the locals know that too, with a string of Shakira-looking Brazilian beauties making a parade in front of this 7-Wonder of the World, some to build up their own runway portfolio, we suspected. Did you notice that little heart on the chest of the statue, which we didn't notice at night?)
