1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #461 - Imerovigli, Santorini

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #461

- Imerovigli, Santorini

(This little town called Imerovigli has been tagged by locals as the most romantic town in Santorini. The views here are as stunning as those from Firostefani. The pathway leading to this town can actually take you all the way to Oia, some 10km away. In fact, many do this trek each morning, which can take a good 3-4hrs. We decided to soak in the vistas here instead. Some tourists from China were commenting that a travel program in China has listed hotel rooms here going for over 1500euro per night - yep, easily, judging by these views)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #460 - Nea Kameni volcano, Santorini

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #460

- Nea Kameni volcano, Santorini

(This could be the nearest we have ever been to an active volcano. Nea Kameni is the round shaped island right in the middle of the caldera of Santorini. To get to it, we walked to the main town of Fira, took a cable car down to the port below, from which a sailing ship then ferried us to the island. The 40min trek up to the volcano gave lovely views, but in the 40C heat, I decided to leave it to hubby to get to the 130m top. Sulphur smells coming off from smokey vents tells us this is one active volcanic site. For me, the moonscape was not as interesting as the handsome yacht-like ship which took us there)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #459 - Red Beach, Akrotiri

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #459

- Red Beach, Akrotiri, Santorini

(The locals say it is the only beach that looks like this in all of the Mediterranean. And indeed, when we got there on our ATV, the red-lava cliffs and the red pebble beach make the Red Beach at this ancient town of Akrotiri really unique. The path to get there requires a short trek, so comfy sneakers will be required. Being a small beach area, the place was packed. We couldn't resist dipping our feet in the cool sea, especially with the mercury hitting 37C by 11am. To add to the colour coding, there is also a Black and a White Beach near here, which can be reached by small boats, which ferries people from one beach to the other)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #458 - ATV rental, Santorini

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #458

- ATV rental, Santorini

(Nearly 10 years ago, we rented a scooter when we were in Mykonos and had such great fun there. This time, we decided to upgrade to the ATV , the all-terrain-vehicle, that are almost everywhere on the roads here in Santorini. And we had a blast with it, crossing the entire island, stopping wherever we want, over the 24hours that we booked it for - that was just 35Euro of wind-in-the-hair fun. The car/bus drivers here are so respectful of these ATVs, even though we were pushing it at no more than 30kmph. It was almost like having our own roller-coaster ride for the day, especially with the hilly roads here. Should we get one when we get home?)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #457 - Oia town, Santorini

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #457

- Oia town, Santorini

(The iconic 3 blue domes are here in the small but vibrant town of Oia. The path leading to these 3 domes is narrow and filled to the brim with tourists and models. They just love the background, and if you are here, you can see why. The sweeping deep blue Mediterranean vista, the white-washed homes/hotels and of course, those 3 blue domes - they make for a spectacular wedding or modelling shot for those who came all the way here with their dresses, some standing precariously on the roofs here. It's a wonderful view here at Oia - pronounced as "eeya")
