1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #387 - Cao Lao Noodles and Bun Thit, Vietnam

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #387

- Cao Lao Noodles and Bun Thit, Vietnam

(Our culinary journey here in Vietnam took on new heights when we chanced upon some street corner shops selling not just the usual pho + springrolls but also frog legs, and this delicious roll-up-your-own bun thit. The meat on stick mixed with local vege and a slice of mango give out such an explosion of taste in the mouth, when dipped in their peanut based sauce - yum! At Hoi An, their famous cao lao noodles at Morning Glory restaurant, right in the heart of this old town, is presented like a 3-michelin joint, but cost us U$15 for 2. What a steal! Vietnamese food is now moving up to the 3rd spot in our Asian-wide cuisine league - with Thai and Japanese still close numero uno's)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #386 - Table Mountain and Lady Buddha, Danang, Vietnam

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #386

- Table Mountain and Lady Buddha, Danang, Vietnam

(Of the many places of interest in Danang, both the Table Mountain and the Lady Buddha statue in Linh Ung stood out for us. The huge limestone caves inside Table Mountain includes one where its ceiling breaks through to the sky. So, at the right time in the morning, the bright sunlight sends a natural spotlight down to the temple surrounding of the cave - very calm feeling here. The 67m, 30-storey high Lady Buddha glistens under the sunshine too at this hillside pagoda area. The views of Danang from here are expansive, with the famed My Khe beach - seen in Apocalypse Now movie - and its many round basket-rattan boats just below us. Of course, Danang sightseeing is not complete without the iconic Dragon bridge, its yellow scales hovering high and proud in this 3rd largest Vietnamese city of over a million people)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #385 - Ancient town, Hoi An, Vietnam

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #385

- Ancient town, Hoi An, Vietnam

(Is this a photo or an art painting? As the sun sets, this old town - they call it "ancient town" - of Hoi An revealed a magical feel to the whole area - handmade lanterns lit up all over town, including this part of the river and bridge. What a sight worth waiting for. This ticketed-entry town is already under Unesco's listing. The combination of lanterns, conserved old buildings, bridge and river made the whole place  look vibrant, even without the lights at night - see video below. We took the opportunity to release a lantern on the river too, and made a wish)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #384 - Ba Na Hills GC, Danang, Vietnam

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #384

- Ba Na Hills GC, Danang, Vietnam

(My first intro into golf in Vietnam is this scenic Ba Na HillS Golf Club just 40minutes from Danang. Designed by Luke Donald, it hugs the hillsides, with mountains high enough to catch the morning clouds. The greens are great and fast, and on their signature Par3 hole#15, I managed to get my par! Even though it is a bit pricey at US$160 a round, it is worth it, with attentive caddies smiling under their unique Vietnamese hats, in this resort-like course)
