My 10th Anniversary "Beating Cancer" Holiday..

This is my 10th Anniversary "Beating Cancer" Holiday, and it's a whopper!

Out in the Alaskan wilderness and on Celebrity Cruises' #1 attraction, the top highlights for me were big indeed - the majestic humpback whale and the powerful brown bear. Their raw power inspires me..to continue fighting the big C, to continue experiencing this wonderful world - there is so much life out there to savour still.

What a warm glow of happiness and love emanating from this entire holiday...hmm..so cool, so endearing..(as this video shows..)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #365 - McArthurGlen Premier Outlet, Vancouver Airport

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #365

- McArthurGlen Premier Outlet, Vancouver Airport

(What a great way to end your holiday - over 8 hours at a premium outlet, before hopping right on to a plane. Yes, who can pass up this experience - this McArthurGlen airport outlet is easily reachable through the skytrain, and just 1 stop away to get to the airport. What's even more appealing was that we could walk to it from the skytrain station itself - genius, just 5mins. Although the outlet can't compare with the biggie in Woodbury or Vienna, we manage to get some good deals from clothing/footwear stores like Under Armour and Nike. No favourites of mine, like Gucci or Prada, though)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #364 - Whistler-Blackcomb Peak2Peak gondola, Canada

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #364

- Whistler-Blackcomb Peak2Peak gondola, Canada

(It holds the Guinness World record for the longest and highest gondola - the Whistler Blackcomb Peak2Peak gondola - at almost 4.5km long. It was a weird feeling seeing and touching snow in mid-June. This grand view, connecting both mountain tops, must be a stunner during winter. We chose the glass-bottom gondola, which gave us a different feeling from that high up, even seeing a black bear roaming about - how do those bikers avoid them? On the way down, we decided to take the open-top ski-chairlifts for 2 - and it was the highlight of this scenic ride for us, with cool wind in the hair - very nice!)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #363 - Whistler Mountain resort, British Columbia, Canada

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #363

- Whistler Mountain resort, British Columbia, Canada

(This charming resort village, Whistler is the host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics. It took us 90min to get up there from Vancouver, immediately after hoping off the cruise ship and onto Epic Rides. The cool 18C temperature greeted us there, but the village itself is the draw, with quaint shops and hotels all around, and at this time, shops fill to the brim with mountain bikes - the Whistler mountain has been turned into a biking paradise at this time of the year. We may have had one of our best hamburgers there, and the maple choc from Rocky Mountain Chocolate, made fresh right in front of us, was too good to pass up)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #362 - Tuscan Grille, Celebrity Cruise, Alaska

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #362

- Tuscan Grille, Celebrity Cruise, Alaska

('We ate like kings' ..this phrase is none more apt than when you are in a cruise ship. There was an all-day café with cookies and ice-cream, there were 5 versions of egg-benedict for breakfast and 3-course sit-down western dining every night. But none can compare with our final night dining at the Tuscan Grille. Alessandro, the funny waiter, and Thai student Suphawan, kept bringing out one Italian dish after dish, until we had to stop - just to have enough space for their awesome, melt-on-tongue tiramisu. The steaks were cooked perfectly - it was truly a gastronomic 5-course Italian meal : starters, soup, antipasta, pasta, main+sides, dessert. And all for U$28 per head - my goodness, burp!)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #361 - Golf and Valli on Celebrity Cruise, Alaska

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #361

- Golf and Valli onboard, Celebrity Cruise, Alaska

(Being our 1st multi-night cruise, what were the highlights for us inside the ship? Well, 2 stood out for us. First, the golf-putting competition was different and kinda fun - I had to pit my putting skills against 18 other men on a slightly rocking boat. And I got a medal for coming in third on day#1 - nice. Second was the onboard entertainment at the 500-seat theatre by this group who re-created the Jersey Boys songs of Frankie Valli. They were pretty impressive, and brought back our memories of the proper Jersey Boys show at Marina Bay Sands theatre. No casino onboard? Of course. But we came out of it scoring negative points, especially that stupid, infuriating coin-game!)
