1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #262 - Dim Sum @ Mongkok, Hong Kong

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #262

- Dim Sum @ Mongkok

(Oh yes, have arrived at Hong Kong, after almost 25years since my last visit. And what's the first thing on the cards? Dim sum lunch, of course! The variety and taste of dim sum here are just so much better than anywhere else. One definitely feels the vibe of Hong Kong after a hearty dim sum meal. Mongkok and MTR, here I come!)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #261 - Putu Piring @ Haig Road

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #261

- Putu Piring @ Haig Road

(What a lip-smacking good dessert to have..either as an after-lunch or after-dinner to round off your meal. And all for a mere $2 for 5 of these soft, brown & white flying-saucers from Haig Road Putu Piring. They are easily the best we have had in Singapore, especially the soft fluffy coconut. And they bring you back immediately to the days gone by, when you could get them for 5cts each. Be prepared for a long queue - the outlet at the Haig Road Hawker Centre seemed to have a shorter queue though)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #260 - Joo Heng, Joo Chiat Road

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #260

- Joo Heng, Joo Chiat Road

(A little corner restaurant along Joo Chiat Road, Joo Heng, has become somewhat of a favourite of ours. It's selection of Teochew dishes is quite extensive but we seemed to not be able to resist their spinach-garlic and bitter gourd pork rob dishes whenever we get there. Their claim to fame is the soybean steamed fish head (carp), which when dipped in their fermented soybean, pork lard cubes, and spring onions, is positively naughty, calorie-wise. But its $53 of yum-yum for all 3 dishes! Being a mere 500metres away from home, we should be there more often than what it has been todate)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #259 - Siam Seafood grilled, Bangkok

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #259

- Siam Seafood grilled, Bangkok

(We had seen these huge fish grilled by the roadside stalls many a time and wanted very much to try it, but wasn't sure about the cleanliness of the surroundings. We finally tucked in to one at this Siam Seafood, an al-fresco joint opposite the Pratunam Fashion Mall. It was fresh and delicious, and certainly worth the price of about 400baht)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #258 - Floating Market, Bangkok

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #258

- Floating Market, Bangkok

(Until you are there, all the photos you have seen before simply cannot match the sights and sound of Bangkok's floating market at Damnoen Saduak. It took over 1hr30min to get there, but upon arrival, it's a feast for the eye. Fresh sticky rice mango for 50baht, cut right in front of you by the sweet lady on the boat. We went for hot spicy noodles for 40baht and a big grilled squid instead for only100bt, and crispy springrolls. The boat ride to see the surrounding areas gave a Venice feeling, minus the gondolas. This is uniquely Thailand)
