1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #636 - Bergen, Norway

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #636

- Bergen, Norway

(We chose to spend 3 nights in Bergen, rather than Oslo, and we made the right choice. What a stunning city Bergen is - with a harbour front to die for! Those wooden houses in Bryggen - wow. And once you are up at Mt Floyen via their furnicular, the view is simply awesome. And this time, we sat down by the Fish Market for our well-deserved cod fish and Norwegian garlic shrimps - both cooked to perfection)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #635 - Henningsvaer Village, Norway

- Henningsvaer Village, Norway

(Could this be the most beautiful village along the entire coast of Norway? Henningsvaer Village is filled with instagramworthy shots, and cod fish! The harbour here is simply beautiful - see the perfect reflections - while the racks and racks of codfish here are striking. What a great fishing village)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #634 - Tromso, Norway

- Tromso, Norway

(This delightful town of Tromso was where we are to board our cruise ship at 1am - but the entire town is lit up by the May midnight sun! In fact, we have not seen the dark of the night for 6 days in a row. Luckily, all hotels room had thick dark curtains, allowing us some peaceful sleep, both here and in Svalbard)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #633 - Lofoten Islands, Norway

- Lofoten Islands, Norway

(The Lofoten Islands provided the mountainous white backdrop that only Norway can give. Here at the Trollfjord, the captain of this Hurtigruten cruise ship did almost the impossible by sailing through the narrow fjord. What views indeed for all 600 of us on this cruise, as we sail towards the Arctic Circle and Bergen)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #632 - Fridtjovbreen Glacier, Svalbard

- Fridtjovbreen Glacier, Svalbard

(High up on this huge glacier, riding it on our snowmobiles - it is a different feeling altogether! Some of the icy settings here are truly from a different world. The washed-up, stranded whaling wooden boat is one such example, dating back to before WW2. Don't get stranded yourself when nature calls - the only toilet here is one built by your guide in 5mins! The view of Longyearbyen, on our final 5km back, is quite a sight too)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #631 - Arctic wildlife, Svalbard

- Arctic wildlife, Svalbard

(We came for the polar bears, but came across none - deliberate chasing after polar bears are prohibited here : one can only 'come across them', not hunt for them. However, the arctic reindeers and the atlantic walruses made up for it adequately. Can you see the size of those tusks? And the reindeers here appear so much bigger than those we saw in Kiruna, Sweden - with much thicker furs)
