1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #272 - Penang Road Chendol and Char Koay Teow, Penang

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #272

- Penang Road Chendol and Char Koay Teow, Penang

(Chendol so thick it drips along the sides of your mouth - yes, it can only be at this Penang Road + Keng Kwee Street stall in Penang. The gula melaka is full in taste, and the green chendol slips down your throat smoothly. With the equally famous char koay teow lady doing her masterchef sessions, this corner of Penang is lunch heaven! We took the duck-egg option for the first time ever for an additional RM1, and it seemed tastier than chicken eggs. And the ABC isn't bad either. DDMT - die die must try!)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #271 - Line Clear Nasi Kandar, Penang

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #271

- Line Clear Nasi Kandar, Penang

(Can this be Penang's best nasi kandar stall, if not Malaysia's? Line Clear Restaurant along Penang Road is certainly the one with the longest queue, especially when lunchtime approaches. We wrapped 2 packs to bring them through the airport and safely back home for a nice dinner. Look at the fishheads - yummy! The guy says it can be RM100 or more for each..gotta try it the next time around)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #270 - Armenian Street, Penang

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #270

- Armenian Street (street art), Penang

(What a delightful set of street art indeed here at Armenian Street. These wall paintings have become iconic here and have given Georgetown a nice vibe, as part of its entry into the United Nations Heritage site. The one with the 2 little kids on a bike with such delight on their faces is the best, and with queues too from tourists eager to catch a selfie )

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #269 - - Macalister Road, Gurney Drive Street Food, Penang

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #269

- Macalister Road, Gurney Drive Street Food, Penang

(6 plates of the best of Penang street food for how much? RM45, or S$15! Pinch me..I can't believe my good fortune with the current exchange rates. It would easily past S$30 in Singapore for all 6 dishes. The all-time favourites are here - char koay teow, oyster omelette, prawn noodles and hubby's favourite, porridge with fried intestines, all at this Macalister Road-Lorong Baru junction coffeeshop. To complete this culinary experience, we headed to Gurney Drive the next day for their Indian rojak, Chinese rojak, cuttlefish and of course, my own favourite, assam laksa. Oh, the exercises I have to do now to burn the carbo)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #268 - Chan Kee Roasted Goose, Hong Kong

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #268

- Chan Kee Roasted Goose, Hong Kong

(We have never had such delicious roasted goose before in our lives. What is served here at Chan Kee Roasted Goose Restaurant at Mongkok is simply outstanding, with such tender meat and slightly crispy skin - this must be Hong Kong's version of Peking duck. Hey, it's endorsed by one Chow Yuen Fatt, no less. When paired with the bitter gourd black bean fish, they were so good the before-and-after photos below tell the whole story. This is a must-try dish when in Hong Kong, just 50m away from the Mongkok MTR station. I can taste the goose just looking at the photos..)

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #267 - Jenny Bakery and Hanjuku Kobo, Hong Kong

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #267

- Jenny Bakery and Hanjuku Kobo, Hong Kong

(I admit it - my weakness #1 is cakes and pastries. So when Jenny Bakery was brought to my attention earlier this year, I had to buy some of her cookies. Sure enough, the queue snaked all the out from the mall it is in at Tsim Sha Tsui! Is this real? Indeed, and it is worth the wait - the cookies melt in your mouth! Also, we discovered this egg tart joint not too far away from it called Hanjuku Kobo - it too had a long queue, and again those tarts were special, and specially priced too at HK$20 each..ouch!)

Update:31Oct - Oops, only 7 cookies left out of 3 tins..gotta go to HK again!
