1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #249 - Chimi Lhakhang Monastery, Punakha

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #249

- Chimi Lhakhang Monastery, Punakha

(This Chimi Lhakhang Monastery gave us another opportunity for a scenic walk, as we passed by acres and acres of rice fields. The Monastery's history, dating back to 1499, is based on a Divine Mad Monk, who carried out unorthodox Buddhist teachings and made the phallus/penis symbol famous because it represented fertility and also drives away evil spirits. The phallus picture is colourfully painted and common on the outer walls of lots of Bhutanese homes. Just look at the chubby cheeks of that cute Bhutanese girl from there)
