1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #553 - Bridge River Kwai, Kanchanaburi, Thailand

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #553

- Bridge River Kwai, Kanchanaburi, Thailand

(The story of this Bridge over the River Kwai was best captured in the famous movie itself. But the real horrors of this Thai-Myanmar border bridge and railway was brought home to us in this trip, some 2hrs drive from Bangkok. The 1600 POWs who died, and the other less reported 100,000 forced civilians labour who also perished, building this railway through impossibly thick and hot tropical jungles of Thailand-Burma. The bridge  and the railway itself are both well preserved, giving all visitors the chance to walk over it, just as it was some 70 years ago)
