- Railway to Thamkra Sae, Thailand
(The 90-min railway ride to Thamkra Sae from the River Kwai Bridge site, though long, was a delight with views of tapioca and banana farms dotted all along it. This was of course, very different 70 years ago, when thick jungle was what faced the POws then - thus, the name Death Railway was given to it. The ride ended at Thamkra Sae, with marvellous views of the village here, including the Buddha Cave nearby. It also showed the indescribable and massive effort that must have gone into building this section of the railway, nearly scraping the mountainside and over the river itself.)
