- Merano, Italy
(Even closer to the Austrian border is this Alpine town of Merano, a straight 1hr busride from our hotel in Bolzano. And what a lively Xmas market here at Merano by the river running through it. We expected a lot of sheep here - afterall isn't it named after those Merano sheep from Australia? A quick google and no, that is "Merino wool". Here instead, we found dogs of all breeds. as the Italian's here brought them out in droves for their post-xmas walks. We had our best streetfood here from this Xmas market, including those hot roasted chestnuts - yum)
