1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #398 - Arc de Triomphe, Paris

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #398

- Arc de Triomphe (and Eiffel in the fog), Paris

(The Arc de Triomphe, with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to commemorate WW1 below it, is one of the most recognisable structures in France. On this day, we couldn't gain entry to its 50m high top because it was closed on New Year's Day. The tight security was evident, with everyone having to be searched by the police before being allowed in or out of the Champs Elysees. We took a stroll to the Eiffel Tower too - the moody, foggy backdrop gave it a different feel altogether, perhaps reflecting a very tough year for France for 2016 in dealing with terrorism. The timelapse vdo below showed the Eiffel-magic, whatever the weather)
