(Cuverville Island is a favourite breeding site for the Gentoo penguins, which explains why they gave us a personal welcome at the landing site here. Gentoos are the 3rd largest species of penguins, behind the Emperor and King penguins. Their breeding sites are so numerous here, attracting skua birds which wait patiently to steal a penguin egg or two from its nests. The timelapse video here shows how active the penguins are, breeding while they can before the summer months move on)
