1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #491 - Neko Harbour, Antarctica

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #491

- Neko Harbour, Antarctica

(Another fresh, bright morning greeted us at Neko Harbour. Antarctica has the freshest, clearest atmosphere anywhere on earth - which explains why research scientists based here measure environmental pollution using air here as the basis for comparison. Neko Harbour really gave us that feeling of breathing in fresh oxygen. And the penguins here probably know that too - using this area for active breeding. We saw the weddell seal for the first time, their distinctive square jaw being used to scrape a hole through the ice during winter, so that they can continue to hunt for food. With our ship as the backdrop surrounded by sea ice, this harbour looks like the real white continent of Antarctica you see in TV documentaries)
