1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour #356 - Brown Bear Search, Icy Strait Point, Alaska

1001 Places/Experiences to See or Savour After Remission #356

- Brown Bear Search, Icy Strait Point, Alaska

(We signed up for our 1st private excursion called the Spasski River Valley Wildlife and Bear Search, and was really looking forward to seeing the famous bears here catch salmon flying off from the river. But after an hour of valley trekking, we realised that this bear-search was going to turn out to be only a flora & fauna walkabout. But then, out of the blue and just as we were to hop onto the bus, there they were - 1 huge mummy bear and her 2 big cubs. Our guide, Sam, was smart enough to know that we were simply too close -20m away- for comfort, and took evasive action by standing large and loud, as the video below showed. It was quite a thrill, seeing these huge coastal brown bears for the 1st time - which can grow to as big as 540kg or 1200lbs, and are considered the largest land canivores. They are also made more famous recently by one Leonardo di Caprio, when he was nearly torned apart in "The Revenant")
